Tropical Cyclone Moving Nearer To Cook Islands WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Radio New Zealand International, Jan. 24, 2013) – A Tropical Cyclone alert is in force for Aitutaki and Palmerston in the Cook Islands as Tropical Cyclone Garry continues to move east towards the Cooks group. The Fiji Met Service says the Category Two at midnight was about 685 kilometers northwest of Aitutaki or 435 kilometers north-northwest of Palmerston and is moving at 10 knots. It says winds close to its centre are estimated to be 120 kilometers per hour with momentary gusts of 166 kilometers per hour.
