Solomon Islander Killed In Crocodile Attack
West Guadalcanal woman attacked during river crossing

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, Dec. 31, 2012) – A woman from Tangarare area in West Guadalcanal was killed by a crocodile on Christmas Eve.

The Guadalcanal Police headquarters confirmed the incident, saying it occurred around 5pm, Monday.

The woman was attacked when crossing Gove River.

Police said the mother, her husband and children were crossing the river on their way to attend a Christmas Eve service when she was attacked.

According to reports, the father and children were helpless and could not save their mother.

"Villagers were alerted by the two children and their father and went out searching but unfortunately could not locate the victim."

Police say they received a call to attend to the incident around 9pm that day and deployed officers to the area on Wednesday.

The body was recovered on the same day by RAMSI police with the support of their local counterparts.

The body was buried the following day after it was recovered.

Guadalcanal Police also confirmed that this is the fifth of such case of crocodile attack in the area.
