Mick Beddoes To Join Renamed SDL Party In Fiji
By Mereani Gonedua
SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, Feb. 5, 2013) – Fiji’s Social Democratic Liberal (SDL) party has welcomed the decision by former United People’s Party (UPP) leader Mick Beddoes to join them.
SDL executive Pio Tabaiwalu told FijiLive Beddoes would be a great asset to the party with his wealth of experience and following.
"He brings with him additional support which the SDL needs as we are looking at forming a multi-racial party which can also attract other communities," Tabaiwalu said.
He said Beddoes’ decision was an inspiration to the SDL to carry on with its efforts for their supporters and the work done by the dissolved Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua. Beddoes announced last Friday that he would be applying to be a financial member of the SDL’s Nadi branch after the UPP was dissolved on Monday, January 28.
When contacted by FijiLive today, Beddoes said he has yet to submit his application, but "will be applying soon."
Beddoes has said he hopes to improve the good working relationship between the members of the United Front for Democratic Fiji of which the UPP was a founding member.
