Fiji Police Receive Reports Of Missing Voter ID Cards By Serafina Silaitoga SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, Dec. 6, 2012) – The police have received reports of missing identification cards belonging to people who have registered for the 2014 elections in Fiji. Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed yesterday that reports had been received at police stations around Vanua Levu and that these reports had been received weekly. "We have also received some in Viti Levu and there is quite a number of reports of missing voter ID cards in the central area," he said. "Suva is one of the areas that is quite affected by the missing ID cards for the 2014 elections, so we are asking people to please take care of their cards. "It is an important document that will take them to the polls in 2014." Inspector Sokomuri said the police had started investigations into reports lodged by a group of people. Elections permanent secretary Mere Vuniwaqa also confirmed receiving reports of the missing ID cards. However, she said the number of missing cards was not significant and that statistics had been prepared to ascertain the number.
