PM Invites Skilled Workers To Seek Employment In PNG WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Radio New Zealand International, Dec. 4, 2012) – Papua New Guinea’s Peter O’Neill led Government is encouraging skilled workers from around the Pacific to take up opportunities in PNG. Mr. O’Neill says PNG wants to see an increase in the about 15,000 Australian citizens currently in the country over the next two years. The Post Courier reports Mr. O’Neill saying PNG will also look at relaxing employment restrictions on Fiji, Solomon Islands and Tonga. PNG needs skilled workers from around the region because of the pressure on its resources sector from developments such as the giant LNG project. Mr. O’Neill says they also recognize a need to build better work ethics. He says PNG needs help from Australia to have its citizens return as public servants, teachers, doctors and lecturers in the universities.
