MARSHALLS WIN RARE PRAISE FOR FISCAL ACCOUNTING
Financial statements meet auditing standards

HONOLULU (Pacific Islands Report, Oct. 27, 2008) – The Marshall Islands Auditor General reportedly had rare praise for the national government’s fiscal reporting, saying the Marshalls have made significant improvements.

"This is the first time in the history of the government that an ‘unqualified’ opinion has been rendered, meaning that the government presented their financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, which included all of the government’s component units," Acting Auditor Atmita Jonathan sai told the Marshall Islands Journal.

But the acting auditor noted that some local governments in the Marshalls continue to struggle with financial accounting.

The auditor listed the following as "not auditable":

Enewetak/Ujelang
Majuro
Kwajalein
Marshall Islands Dry Dock
