PALAU PRESIDENT TO VISIT ISRAEL, TAIWAN, GERMANY
Globe trotting Pacific leader gone most of month

KOROR (Palau Horizon, May 6, 2008) - President Remengesau is off to different countries this month for official visits.

Presidential Chief of Staff Billy Kuartei said the president is scheduled to attend Israel’s Independence Day on May 14.

Israel will be celebrating its 60th Independence Day anniversary and the president was invited to attend the festivity.

After Israel, the president is off to Taiwan to attend the inauguration of the new government.

The inauguration ceremony is slated on May 20. The new Taiwan president is Ma Ying-jeou.

Remengesau will be among the heads of States that will attend inauguration.

Palau is among the 23 countries that have diplomatic ties with Taiwan.

According to internet news, the other head of states that will be attending the inauguration are the king of Swaziland; the presidents of Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Burkina Faso, Sao Tome and Principe, Honduras, El Salvador and Paraguay; and the governors of the Solomon Islands, St Kitts and Nevis, and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Gambia, Guatemala and Nicaragua are to send vice presidents while Tuvalu and Belize plan to send prime ministers.

After Taiwan, Remengesau will then proceed to Bonn Germany for a climate change meeting.

Remengesau is expected to return to Palau by May 27.
