Preparing for duty in Sudan

SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, April 14, 2008) – A group of Fiji police officers has left the country to undergo an intensive two-week training programme in Ghana, Africa.

The officers will return to Fiji at the end of the two weeks and prepare for duty in Sudan’s war-torn Darfur region.

Police spokeswoman Ema Mua told Fijilive since the peacekeeping mission is initiated by the United Nations, everything is paid for.

"There are 12 officers, some left on Thursday while the rest flew out on Friday," Mua said.

The officers are led by ACP Berenado Daveta.
