EVENTS/ACTIVITIES

Aquarium/Sea Life

  • Waikiki Aquarium After Dark

Each year, rice corals in our Edge of the Reef exhibit spawn 2 to 4 days after the new moon in June. Celebrate this rite of reef renewal with the Waikiki Aquarium. Class includes a short presentation on coral ecology, a gallery tour and festive refreshments for the spawning event. Our rice corals have spawned regularly for the last 9 years! Join us for this very special evening. Pre-registration required: $16 ($12 for Aquarium members).

  • Haunama Bay - Hanauma Bay opens in the evening on Saturdays until 10:00 p.m. Mostly residents visit in the evening to snorkel with a flash light or do a night dive. The bay is exceptionally beautiful when there is a full moon.

    • Marine Science Night at the Hanauma Bay Education Center
      June 28, Sat 5:00 - 9:30 pm
      July 12, Sat 5:00 - 9:30 pm
      Aug 9, Sat 5:00 - 9:30 pm

This special marine science program begins with a guided snorkel or walk along the reef's edge before sunset. Then, break for a picnic dinner as you learn about the ecology of the reef at night. After dinner explore the reef once more to discover how life in the Bay changes from day to night. Marine biology instructors from the Waikïkï Aquarium and Hanauma Bay Education Department instruct and lead your discoveries. Minimum age 6 years; youngsters must be accompanied by an adult. Snorkelers should be comfortable in water 5 -10 feet deep. Participants provide own snorkel gear and picnic dinner. Pre-registration required: $15/adult, $10/child ($12/8 for members).
